Rubber Cap on Rear Window Awning Props

I have a 27' 2017 International.

The rear window awning uses two rods to prop the awning open once deployed. The two rods have rubber caps on the ends that stick into cups to hold the prop in place. The rubber caps wear through on the very end. I have covered the exposed rod ends with electric tape. Does anyone know a source for the rubber caps? See photo, sorry the photo loaded sideways, if you click on the photo it will be upright.

I would check an auto parts store.
They may have rubber vacuum plugs which might work better than the harder plastic type.

I may have some here (I have a ton of that kinda stuff from my working days) but I don't have my trailer here to confirm what I have will fit.
If I get the trailer here, and think of it, I'll check to see if I have any and also check if you've found any yet.

Call or email Zipdee. When I contacted them years ago, they sent me a handful for free.

Search Amazon for "Vinyl End Caps Screw Protectors"
Find the size you need, I think I bought 3mm - 1/8"

Kudos for pointing out one of the annoying things that we have to deal with. Don't remember anyone ever pointing it out on Air Forums before.

Will be contacting Zip Dee, because I've tried different solutions, but none last and while you set the rod on one side, then adjust the other side, the first one slips out, and you may be going back and forth.

There should be a clip where you set the rod, clip it in place, and set the second rod and clip it into place. Hey, there could be a patent on that!

Rubber tip alternative

I have used this stuff to do just what you want as well as MANY other uses. A little more expensive than just the little tips, but you will find it very useful as it will for example penetrate joints in various connections (I use it brushed on electrical connections that heat shrink just isn't good enough for), dip a crank handle or any tool for a much more comfortable and safer grip.

End caps

I got mine from Amazon, got an assortment and put three on each rod increasing in size on each one two years ago. They have not worn through.

You can find them at a hardware store .... before installing new ones , fill 1/4 full with liquid tape .. they won't slide down and poke thru ..

These 'Cap Plugs' are the cheapest they can use, ive had mine on my 2023 Classic 33 replaced twice now within a year because they just wear through. I do have the hookup through. www.caplugs.com

The VC series, is what you want. They do send out free samples, and they do come in a plethora of colors and thicknesses.

Rubber caps on awning

Every Ace hardware and most home repair centers stock these different size tips in their fastener section, in those slide out boxes.

Awning Props

Go to Lowes and take one of yours with you to compare. I bought replacements on their hardware aisles in those specialty drawers that they have

Find a close by person with a 3D printer and have them make some with TPU filament if nothing else works.

the wire shelving that is sold at HD or Lowes includes small white rubber tips that I have used in other applications. Try them, they are cheap. You can buy them separately.
