Relax Awning Manual Retraction
I purchased my trailer used about a year ago. It had just been updated with the new roller motor and circuit board. I really like the awning and have not had any problems with it.
I know there is a chance that I will have retraction problems, so I want to be prepared. I did not receive all of the tools referenced in Zip Dee's manual retraction procedure. I called Zip Dee to purchase them. They were very nice and mailed me the tools without charge. When I received them there was a larger hex rod about 6" long in the kit that was not referenced in the retraction procedure. I called Zip Dee to see what it was. They informed me that awnings with the updated motor could be retracted using this rod and and an electric drill without the need of removing the gas rafters, without the need of using the original winding tool, and without the need of removing the head bolt. This greatly simplifies the manual retraction procedure. I advised them that this information is not on their website. They were very nice, but as of now they do not have a written procedure for manual retraction with the updated motor.
I think this is info that all relax awning owners should be aware of. Is anyone else aware of this? Has anyone used this new method?
