Power awning question
While reading the book “The (nearly) Complete Guide to Airstream Maintenance” by Rich Lahr, he mentions that the power awning will retract on wind. However the manual on my International 2019 Serenity make no mention of this. Does anyone know if the Power Awnings have this feature? In any case we always retract when away, during windy days and/or in the rain. Just curious.

I'm not aware of that feature and am curious to hear the feedback. Last week we were camping in Pinnacle NC and the wind picked up rather suddenly. I looked out the window and was a bit surprised at what I saw so I hit the retract button as fast as I could - no harm, no foul. If it were to auto-retract I would have expected it to do so under these conditions - maybe my threshold is low?

If it really does have an automatic retraction feature they’ve really kept it a secret. I haven’t read many positive comments regarding the powered awning. Mine is working fine, but every time it completely closes I am thankful.

That was a typo. The Interstate motor home has an auto-retract feature, but the trailer does not.

Yes, they will retract with enough wind...but not the way you might like it to!

I was told at delivery of my 2020 Serenity that there was no automatic rewind at all.

We love ours. I read on the forum somewhere that it helps to keep the mechanism oiled. We haven’t had any issues either. Every now and then it doesn’t fully close but we just hit the button, send it back out, and close it again. Works every time.

Indeed if the Zip Dee Awing controller is on, it does sense very heavy wind and might properly retract automatically. technically the way it works is that it uses feedback stepper motors that understand precise position so if the controller gets feedback that the position is variable it retracts. In practice the actual results are variable, sometimes it saves the awning, sometimes not so much.

Technically, please let us know how well that works during your next hurricane!
