Power awning for Airstream

Does anyone know of a power awning made for Airstreams? They seem to be more of a "standard item" for most new trailers...
Thanks
Larry

I am sure that ZipDee make one. They are quite expensive and when I think how easy mine is to open and close I couldn't justify the price.

Larry.

Zip Dee automatic awnings that operate on 12 volts DC, are almost triple in price from a regular Zip Dee.

Ugh! I guess I'll have to decide how bad I want one! I check with Zip Dee last fall, at that time, they didn't offer one. At 3x the price though, I doubt if there will be one in my future...
Thanks for the info.

Hello Mr. Cook,

We have an automatic awning in the development stages for Airstream owners, but at this time we do not have one available for sale to the general public.

Thank you

Hmm. Interesting.

Positives: Kinda slick.

Negatives and Questions:
1) Noting mentioned about automatic wind sensor closing.
2) It's pretty slow. If you needed to put it away in a hurry you'd be in a fix. I can deploy or put away our owning in less than a minute by myself. Faster with help.
3) What kind of power draw is there?
4) Can the awning be operated manually if necessary?
5) I can only imagine repair costs.

1) nice feature don't know

2) 1 minute 2 seconds out, not bad
1 minute 25 seconds in, yeah a bit slow but when I need it in fast usually need other stuff in to so 10 seconds to get to the button and then get the other stuff makes it faster.

3) Good question in the video I could see 13 LED on the controller lit with it just sitting there plus a receiver for the remote powered. I would guess 1 amp sitting idle (more if you use it).

4) Yeah what happens when you are boon docking, the battery goes dead and you need to leave fast.

5) Besides cost how hard is it to stow to get somewhere to get it fixed?

Just last week I saw a used motorized end for a ZipDee (it said it was off of a Prevost?)... EBay's opening bid...

Did anyone here get one of the retrofit kids installed yet? A year ago when it took us 25 YouTube video views to get the awning open (yes -- I finally figured out what we were doing wrong) I would have paid anything for this but now... I dunno. Hubby is checking with Avalon (guy who does all our work) - he's an official installer for ZipDee and he'll get us a price to add the retrofit kit on ours (21 ft.) and I'll post the info when I get it.

They do have wind sensors, seen them on a prevost. The term we have always known this style is "air-electric ZipDee."

One would have to ask why. It takes about 1 minute to open or close a manual ZippDee, same to close it. Two minutes if you take your time.

Auto wind sensor, would you really leave and trust this gizmo to protect your 3 times the price ZippDee?

Takes me 4 minuets. Lol. I agree, very expensive for the little work involved to do it manually and it's one more thing to break down.

Some folks still like "stick shift" transmissions in cars and trucks.

All depends on what comforts an owner wants to enjoy.

Biggest customers will be those that have many types of handicaps.

Andy, how did you know in over 50 years of driving I recently got my first auto transmission, only because they didn't offer a stick. My left foot still lifts every time I come to a stop sign.

Good point about the handicaps.

The auto industry has really changed.

I wanted the old fashioned complete front seat in a 2013 car.

No more.

Only split front bucket seats.

Oh well, I can only sit in one at a time, anyway.

And then, no more automatic windshield wipers.

No more lane change warnings.

No more 12 CD player.

But, built in navigation to go 1.6 miles to work and back.

And, a 6 speed auto transmission, that gives you a "hot rod", without super charging.

They must have found out that I'm "polish".

Andy
