Question Part number for Zipdee automatic awning > Shock / Struts

On our last JC trip, they replaced both shocks for the automatic awning. Luckily covered under warranty. We used the awning MAYBE 15 times since owning it as we always have 10-15 MPH winds....so we are careful when we deploy it.

Both shocks were bad....lovely.

I can't seem to find the part number for the shocks/strut replacement in the parts book...google has nothing but diagrams. I am unclear if they are a match for my unit and don't want to guess.

Does anyone know where to find them and their part number? Or do I need to call zipdee direct?

I think you are referring to the rafters, but not sure.

Rafters are at the top of the awning and push it outward.

Did a quick search on that term, doesn't seem to be what I'm after.

I found this image on google and mocked it up:

That’s the gas rafter assembly. Part number 262101. Contact Zip Dee for replacements. They are pricey. I’ve replaced one damaged by the previous owner of my rig.

I found it on google with info you gave me.....good lord those are expensive.

I thought JC was joshing me that they were $1000 apiece....I guess so.

Thanks for the info. I will hate to ever have to replace those myself cost wise.

So far my dealer changed one early on.......and after this JC trip they replaced both......inside of 3 years of ownership.....

Thanks for the help.

Remember the little tidbit from the 1950s? The $2,500 list price Chevy cost over $10,000 in the parts books.

ZipDee is no different. Maybe check the salvage yards....

Call ZipDee customer service. They are always helpful. If you are talking about the rubber "Bumpus" (an elongated oval about 2" x 4")' They are about $100 each, but you can use a rubber shim about 2 x 2 x 3/16" between the Bumpas and the mounting point with ribs facing out This gives you more push out force when the awning is starting to open.

I hear of what you described when I was in JC. My inquiry was for the "struts" or "shocks" that run on the horizontal axis. Fungus nailed what I was looking for and the sticker shock for those is outrageous. But I may look into the bumpus as it always requires a "hand" to get the awning to "start" coming out from the home position.

We just had our first encounter with the ZipDee Relax Awning! Went out and not back. Cant leave campsite and it was CONFUSED! Finally got it to go back in. Got home and hit open and it ran all the way out. Hit close and noticed the awning was not rolled up straight and had shifted toward the back of the trailer
It was binding the metal cover against the arm roller in the rear. Found front shock to have lots of resistance and the back almost none. Seven month old trailer. Lots of noise from the rear drive arm now. Time to see a authorized dealer to see if the warranty will cover the repairs. Wish I did not have this electronic nightmare awning.

There is a lot to be said for the older Airstreams without the power awnings, power stabilizers and power this and that. The mechanical awnings work every time.

The power awnings problems are not "if" but "when".

Practice manually closing the awning at home when not under a time crunch.
