Outside Window Coverings?

I noticed on the all outside window frames of my 1971 Overlander that there are what look like snaps. Were these used for window coverings of some sort? Does anyone have any thoughts?

Those were more than likely used for snap on window coverings. I added them to mine just last month and I really like them. I have some pictures around here somewhere. I'll post them once they're found.

Here's a pic of the snap in position with the fabric shap showing. The window covers just pop right on and off. Any awning place should be able to hook you up with this set up.

Glad you posted that picture - That gives me an idea instead of replacing the rear window awning shade on mine. Maybe I can just get some of the same fabric as my other awnings and make it so it snaps on the window.

Now I just have to descide on this or do I just want to tent the rear window a deep solar gray.

Sorry to sound like a newbie, but what the ... are window covers and what are there function??

Before the free for all starts I can figure out that they cover the windows.......

And flyfshr, can you post a picture of the whole window cover in place for referance?? TIA

In a major holding patter form the stanpoint of work on the trailer, but I have made a lot of progress onthe enginerring and design side. Tom Williams has been a huge help!!!

This isn't the best picture of the window covering but it should give you an idea of what it looks like. The fabric matches the curbside awning.

Can't wait for hubby to get home, and tell him I've found out what the snaps on the street side of the "living room" windows are for. This forum just continues to amaze me.

On a related note, we stopped at Fogdall RV in Cedar Falls, Iowa on the way back from Minnesota. They are in a brand new facility right on 20 highway. Very large repair bays, lots of parts and pieces and RV supplies, and of course, the newest airstreams (now I know why we bought a used one). In any case, all of the employees were a delight to be around. We got an estimate for a Zip Dee Awning with them installing. Guess that will wait til spring. Right now we are reworking the old hay barn into airstream repair central. It's the only thing that was big enough to hold "Moby".

Thanks again for solving one more of those "I wonder what this does?" kind of problems.

I am reviving this old thread to ask about something that my searching has not answered.
It has to do with snaps on the sides of my rear zip-dee roller awning.
This is one of the small awnings that cover only the rear window in this case.
I meant to call Zip Dee today but let time get away from me.
I will call them next week. In the meantime I am hoping one of you all might have an idea.

There are 3 snaps on each side of the awning equally spaced top to bottom. Female snaps. I do not think there are any male snaps for them to mate with.Could be but I cannot go look til next week. I don't recall seeing any.

Now why would a tensioned pull down window awning need such snaps?
I am not sure that snaps would hold against the strong pull of the spring tension anyway. The awning when extended attaches to a hook below the window with a loop made of the blue-fancy awning material.

This does not seem to be the same as the snap on awning fabric window covers that are mentioned above and elsewhere in these forums.

I realize this is an old thread and you probably have gotten your answer by now, but just for the sake of follow-up for any future folks with the same question, here is a photo of our snap-on window awnings. The purpose is for shading the windows and the side of the trailer somewhat. Shading the widows seems to help on hot days (or nights) when you want the windows open to allow a breeze but want some privacy. We don't have (want/need) A/C so want to open our windows all the time. Besides, they look cool!
