Our new rope and pole awning - 71 29' Ambassador

Here are a few pics our new custom rope and pole awning! We decided to go rope and pole vs attached roll out for a few reasons. 1. We didn't have existing roll out awning hardware anywhere on the trailer. 2. We liked the vintage look. 3. We really didn't want the metal arms coming off both ends of the front and back of the camper in the walkways.

So we went with a yellow and grey striped sunbrella fabric with fringe and had it custom made by Marti's Awnings. She had it completed and delivered within a month; which was just in time for our first fall trip in Airhed. It's 18'5" x 9'. We didn't have too much trouble putting it up for the first time and found that if the short one (me) is up on the ladder feeding it into the rail; the tall one (hubby) can pull it to the back of the trailer with the rope attached to the awning grommet on the top left rail side. It was semi easy. We are definitely loving having the extra 144 sq ft of dry outdoor space!

That looks perfect. Great colors, and the fringed edge is a nice touch.

Thanks for that. I'm exploring my awning options on my new (to me) AS. My current awning is well on the way to worn out, plus the roof attachment on the back end has pulled out causing long term problems. I've decided to take it all down to facilitate repairs and then reconsider my options. Rope and pole, free standing camping style tent/screen room, shorter new awning are all options. I'd day dreaming of a rope and pulley system to allow me to feed and pull the awning myself. Decisions, decisions. I haven't seen anyone in a newer rig opt for the rope and pole system yet but I'm looking.
