Carefree Awning Release Procedure - 76 Argosy

First no pics so imagine yours is like mine. Flat curved main arms about 3" wide with smaller brace arms hidden behind. If this sounds right keep reading. 1) both main arms operate the same, so remove linchpin pin which actually goes through main brace side walls thrust both brace arm and out other side of main arm. At about chest level also there are two(2) screw locks to loosen or remove and later replace and tighten when awning opened. 2) now the fun part - locate attached to trailer wall is a gator tooth L bracket about chest high too, it is fixed and does not move except to adjust. It is actually constructed in an L type shape on outer end. 3) the L is pointed upward and fits inside the main arm 4) there is a 3" flat piece of metal with a round horizontal finger piece, actually a slide lock which slides up off the L end and down onto L brace end to lock. 5) so now the trick is to push the main arm toward the trailer to collapse the main arm and relieve pressure off L brace so can lift sliding lock upward, I find also it helps grab main arms and shove it upwards, straight up, to help move slide lock. 6) once slide lock is off L brace it will drop down within main arm interior channel out of way. You may have to grunt and shove hard. 7) repeat for other arm. 8) now reach high on main arms, and it helps to have someone do likewise on other arm, and both pull outward so awning starts to unroll in an downward arc fashion so 8' awning open and can see frill on awning end, to full open position. 9) the main arm has a sliding outer section over an inner section that can now be pulled so raised upward and once to desired height re-tighten screw locks to secure sliding sections of main arm. Note: if expect resin or heavy few you may want to leave rear main arm shorter to funnel run-off that direction. 10) now pull up support brace which also has a screw lock and extend so it fits snugs under a nipple button inside the upper main arm and tighten lock screw. 11) I would suggest adding eye bolts at top of main arms and attach a tie down rope to aid stability in gusts. 12) there are adjustments bolts at bottom of main arm to adjust length for storage position. Likewise brace arm needs adjustment to fit behind main arm in storage with end in a slot on bottom pivot. Lack of adjustment can cause arms not to collapse together.
