My new awning...

Hi all,

I just received my new awning from VTS. And like a 3 year old in a candy store, we had to set it up before our next camp out. I just wanted to share it with you.

But, I do have some questions for others that may own the same style as I do.

What are your thoughts of leaving it up all night?

How does it handle 15-25mph winds?

Should there be a little sag in the middle?

What should be used to clean the canvas?

I know all the questions should have been asked before making the plunge, but when my better half has her mind set on some thing thats it.

Robert...DON'T....leave it up if there is a hint of a wind more than a summer breeze. I speak from experience. I had one like yours on a tent trailer. We left it up and left in the morning for a day of sight seeing. There was no wind in the morning and none when we returned in the late afternoon. But the awning was still attached but tied (wrapped) to the side of the trailer. Other campers had 'rescued' it when some 'breezes' lifted the awning stakes from the ground and apparently was thrashing it against the trailer. One of the campers nearby, not the good samariton, told me a wind did come up and blew some things over and around. No damage other than a bent pole. This happened in a May visit to Calaveras Big Trees. Yours sure looks nice.

Hi Neil,

Sorry to hear about your experience with your awning. I'm sure glad there were some good Samaritan around to help out. These people are fewer than more. I will definitely keep that in mind when we go out.

Water, mild detergent?

In my experience when ever you determine it won't be windy and you leave your awning up, it will get windy at the least opportune time and you'll be out there taking it down before the wind does. This applies to nighttime, just running to the store for a minute or even just being more than 100 yards from your AS.

Robert - Your new awning looks really cool in combination with your beautiful FC. Question: How difficult is that style of awning to put up & take down?

Robert, The awning is a beautiful addition to your AS. If you are going to be away for any extended period of time, stow it away. AS others have said, I have been up at 3 AM, on the shore, storing my awning, in driving rain and wind....I had rather do it BEFORE I go to bed. (happened twice)

Even with the newer awnings,it can happen,an unexpected rain kinked my roller tube in just a few minutes because I didn`t drop one corner.With that sag [which I don`t think you should have] that is major weight with a little rain.Beautiful rig good luck with the awning.
