As someone said early on-- it just screws on. Well, sports fans, it just as easily unscrews off. I have lost them because there is no way to keep them from falling off of the AirStream without some type of retention. I expected more from a very expensive trailer, but didn't get it. You would think that after so many complaints about this problem, it would be solved by a company which cares about those who buy their product with faith in the thought that they are buying the best.

Loose screws

Thanks for posting this

On our new 19 25 Flying Cloud I thought the snap clips were moving way to easy went to the trailer today before our trip to the Keys and sure enough they all need to be secured with Lock Tite

If you don't care to purchase Loctite, nail polish or super glue will work just fine for this application.

The only person I want to talk with at Zip Dee is Linda.
She is the most knowledgeable person onsite about all things Zip Dee/Airstream regardless of the year & model. She is the data base.
Ask for Linda.

I have learned that it is prudent to occasionally walk my AS with a screwdriver and plyers. Also:
- Wood glue applied to the cabinet hinge screws
- Locktight on outside screws on awning clamps
- Tighten all other screws with screwdriver - don't use screw gun as you run the risk of stripping the screw hole(s)

Also, do this frequently:
- vacuum the space behind refrigerator, accesible through outside panel
- vacuum AC unit intake screens on inside ceiling
- tighten screws on stove
- HAND TIGHTEN THE DRAIN TRAP UNDERNEATH SINKS - THEY WILL RATTLE LOOSE AND CAUSE QUITE THE WATER PROBLEM IF LEFT UNCHECKED
- CHECK ALL PLUMBING FITTINGS AND PERIODICALLY HAND TIGHTEN

Awning

Just for insurance, in case mine falls off or unhooks during transit, and the tighteners on each end come loose....I have a small grey velcro strap I use to bind the struts together so it won't come loose going down the road. Just a little extra insurance if all goes bad...

i called zip dee. no help there
it cost $9 for each hook

our 2017 as 22fb is over 2 years old, thus no support from As
most of the higher end AS have zip dee with wheels to hold the awning down.
the bambi does not have the wheel as AS asked ip dee to shave 30% of the weight

has anyone else had issues with zip dee hook

this is what it looks like, missing hook and only one hook left

Our 2018 22FB - the hook over the door got loose on a trip and then fell off in camp. Found it and used blue loctite to secure it. When doing so, don't insert the screw in all the way or the hook won't easily turn. Actually, they need to be loose enough to turn with the hooker, but not so tight they bind.

All this after you get the new one that is far overpriced but isn't everything on an Airstream?

LocTite

I called Zip Dee they say Airstream must have 55 gallons of this as they ship it with all new products.

Ours was loose in fact the screw looks to be too short. It was a team job the wife and I as you need more than one hand.

People.
This is not rocket science. It's a hook. Zip Dee sells them.
They're held on by a screw.
Think about a washer under them if you need some 'adjustment'.
Use blue Locktite.

Same as the last post. Call Zip Dee, get a new hook, and use the LockTite they send with it. Easy peasy. Or get some LockTite and do it before the hook falls off. Airstream only installs the awnings. They don't glue the hooks on.

This is a tremendous amount of conversation about the most basic of devices on these Airstreams! This is a recent addition to the vehicle. Wally didn't have this problem! Tighten the screw after a drop of loctite and move on!

I’ve had at least 2 of the screws fall off, the dealer replaced them and added Loctite. I also use Velcro around both arms at about the door handle level, just in case.

34 with your post. And 35 with mine. I don't see a problem with the amount of posts if it is of interest to people, it is not required reading

I use clear fingernail polish. It will come off with a screw driver or use of polish remover. Sold in every drug store where women are .

I lost both but found one and reinstalled it. I finally called Zip Dee support. They sent me another with new hardware including a small tube of locative. They said they provide en ethem that way to AS but for some reason it seems to be not applied during factory install at AS. I paid the $9 and when I installed the replacement I also took off the remaining original hook and install loctite on that screw. It was an easy fix. You just need a screwdriver and a ladder. Pull out the awning at least far enough to expose the screw head and screw it on. Don’t make it tight. It needs to be able to swivel. If it is tight it will start to unscrew itself when to swivel the hook and it could cause the loctite to fail which will start the issue all over again.
