How to make a Zip Dee go straight up?!
I know that once upon a time I saw a picture here of a Zip Dee awning going straight up, as opposed to out. It was only up about 8 inches or so, to allow polishing under the awning (without having to remove the awning for polishing). I for the life of me can't figure out how this move was made with the awning & wondered if anyone can walk me through it. I'm in the throngs of polishing & want to move it straight up! Thanks in advance!

Beats the heck out of me. I thought you were going to give us a recipe for a new alcoholic beverage for rallies.

Extend the arms that go from the bottom of the trailer, to the roller tube.
An easy way is to open the awning all the way, and extend those arms.
Then simply, but carefully, let the awning retract to the trailer.
Do not use the arms that go from near the top of the trailer to the roller tube.
Have fun, polishing that is.

When you get it in the position you are talking about, how bout a picture.
I never knew that was possible.
Not that I will ever need it for polishing, but I would like to get under there for cleaning occasionally.
Thanks Andy.

Straight up Zip Dee
I will take a photo Tuesday of a Zip Dee awning, going straight up, as it's against the trailer, and post it.

I'm too old for this kind of thing
I need glasses, have dyslexia, or just read to fast... I swear you said "thongs" instead of "throngs".....Anyway, its a picture of polishing I will cherish.

It's only 7:00 a.m!!! I'm afraid of you at 7:00 pm!
Anyhow, I ran outside (fully dressed) and tried out the awning like Andy said. Here are some pictures for you....maybe some other time in the thongs of polishing....I mean throngs...

Ah Becky, your a delite.
How easy so many things in life can be.
Thanks for the photo.
Now if only polishing was that easy, with or without those throngs or thongs, or, you know, one of those attention getters.
Airstream excluded.

HAHAHA! I got on here getting ready to ask how the heck you polish under the awning and... here it is. One other question... How about the awnings at the front and back of the camper. They do not have the extending arms. I was thinking of removing them since they are so light and slide right out the sides but wonder how I can keep the spring loads from going off as I remove it.

Scratch my question on the front awning (over hitch). I took it off this AM with little effort thanks to the video on youtube someone linked in this forum somewhere. Sliding the first aluminum strip out makes the job so much easier. Unfortunately, when the PO had the passengers side awning redone, they must not have read this because as I was polishing the front endcap, I noticed a number of scratches right where the entire awning would have slid off They polished out nicely at least.
