Help - Zip Dee Relax Awning Main Roller Bent

Its Saturday,

My main roller tube bent last night - I need help as to if you think it will still be able to be be brought in -- I haven't tried so that I can get it to a repair shop?

Thanks and yes - it should of been brought in for the rain - it was going to the shop on Oct 15 for that dilemma with the controls. After fighting with it for 2 years - it finally won last night.

Thank you!

Hi

From the look of it, it's finished. The only option to get you back on the road is to pull it off the trailer. You can then decide if you simply run without an awning or if you buy a new one to replace it.

Without knowing which trailer it's on, it's tough to guess which one you have and what's involved in getting it off. ( Yes this is a hint that putting your info up via the User CP tab at the top of this page would be helpful .....).

When you go to replace it get a MANUAL ZipDee awning. Takes less than 1 minute to deploy or retract. And it will never fail to do either because it is powered by you.

A slight bend, maybe but that looks like a hard crease in the tube. Sorry for your loss but I think you will have to take things apart to tow. I don’t see and easy way to roll that up to be able to tow at speed.

I have the same trailer, just a 2017.

For what it is worth I sent my control board into zip Dee and had them reprogram it. I get maximum tilt off the rear arm now, just like the manual ones. I shed water even with the heaviest rainfall.

I’m not sure if new control boards are programmed this way or not but if you send one in they’ll do it free if charge.

My awning works flawlessly. If you had a manual awning out without an aggressive tilt it would have collapsed too.

You may want to look into using racket straps (long ones) pull it back to the side of the AS so you can get it to a repair shop. You will need to tie the canvas to the roller. It you try to remove the roll be careful with the torsion spring, it can hurt you as I found out. I had to flex my awning roller tube to break it and load it in the bed of my truck. Get HELP don't do it by yourself.

You do not have to remove
You can straighten the tube enough to roll it up for transport.
Use a step ladder and friend to pull down on both ends with the step ladder in the middle
You may remove the bars and straight them with a vice and slowly putting pressure to straight. Then you can move and take it the Mother Ship for replacement.

I also have a 2017 30' Classic and the same problem where the rear tilt doesnt go low enough.
Where is the control board ?
Under the sink? Is it as simple as unplugging it and sending it in?

Hi

Yup, the control board is (probably ... it's AS) under the sink ( = mine is on a 2017 Classic) . Is it on the floor under the sink or stuck on the wall? who knows. Should be on the wall. Never tried to remove it so no guess there.

Under the sink on the 30’ screwed to the wall. 1-2 screws top and bottom to remove (mine had a single screw pinning it to the wall). Unplug 2 wire harnesses and 1 cat5.

Call Zip Dee / get an RMA # for reprogramming. They’ll ask you front or rear tilt - you want rear on the 30’.

Send it in. They’ll have you pay for return shipping when programming complete. ~2 weeks end to end.

Worth it.
