Found Zip Dee Tube
I just recently found a Zip Dee cardboard tube in my shed that is about 15ft long. I am not sure what is inside this as I have not opened it yet. I know Zip Dee makes awnings but what would they ship in this? Could it be a roll of fabric, a part or whole awning?
This is something that my grandfather left at my house because he did not have room for it and I have never bothered to look in it.

The cardboard tube is used to ship a roller tube and/or the awning wrapped up on the roller tube.
They used 2 different tubes back then, with different thicknesses.
They now only use one size, that's called a "show tube" since it's very thick and strong. However, UPS says it's not a cardboard tube, in spite of the fact that we demonstrated to them that it does "BURN". UPS is still trying to find a name for the material. WOW.
However, it still sometimes doesn't stop a freight line from bending it in half.

OK, forgive me but I just gotta ask. Instead of posting about what it could be, why didn't you just look?
Of course now that my curiosity is in play, pleas let us know what you do find when you open it.

@ inlandandy
The tube is about a 1/2" thick sidewall and about 6" ID.
@vswingfield
That would occur in a perfect world. I am at work right now and remember seeing it last night and thinking nothing of it because it has been there for 8~10 years. However while reading an awning installation post I said "Wow that shipping tube looks exactly like the one in my shed. I wonder whats in there?"

My awnings came in a tube like that. The patio awning has a separate box with the arms and mounting hardware. The street side awning had everything in the tube.

If the tube has never been opened, you should find a wooden plug at each end, held in place with large staples.
If that's the case, you should find either a roller tube or a roller tube with an awning.
On the other hand, if it's been opened, it could be full of "NOTHING" on up to a ton of "MONEY" , as it's really too small even to put a skinney neighbor in it.
Hopefully, it will be great news, for your Christmas.

I need a small awning for the Bambi II. Did you find a small, complete awning inside? Do you have need for it?

I thought maybe that you were saving it up for Christmas. Even if that's the case, you are still allowed to shake it.

I have opened the tube. It was still stapled shut. Inside I found a 16ft long roll of the blue zip dee fabric. It is in perfect condition it still smells new. It has been wrapped in what looks like cling wrap. I would guess there is maybe 40-50ft of material. Maybe they bought it in bulk because my grandmother is a great seamstress. She re made the curtains so I think she could do this too. I will ask them.
So no awning but this is a great find if I need the awning re covered.

I feel like those people on the antique road show. What's the value of something like this? I don't want to sell it but I am curious.
