Hi, I was assuming that all Airstreams had the blue striped awning material, but mine came with the gray material. Wife said that I can change it when this one becomes worn out. So I guess the gray one will be ours forever. Yes, your awning/s will be Zip Dee, but you might have to request the blue stripes; Wish I did.

Problem is- it won't wear out-
I met a couple in the campground with a 1986 and the awning material was like new- it looked as good as my 2013.

We have the three awning on ours. We use the big one regularly and use the street side and back window ones when we need some more shade. I didn't think we would use the latter two at all when we got it. If I were getting a new stream I would defiantly get all of them.

I love having the awnings over the back bedroom and street side when it rains and I can keep the windows open and listen to the rain - very peaceful.

Absolutely! Nice to have curb side if you park in the sun it keeps the back side of your fridge cooler...also nice to be able to opens windows in the rain in the back bedroom too.. I can't tell you how many times we've camped with other families and our camper is the meeting place when it rains because of the sheer size of the road side awning...sun or rain I never camp without opening them all up...Plus it looks really cool!

One other thought. I do notice that my awning is not as large as the awnings I have seen on other AS. There must also be size options on them.

Our first AS had only the large patio awning. Camping in Missouri in late July it was very, very hot and I wished we had awnings for the other windows. That was an '85 Excella and it had blue/white striped material. Very nice. This current AS is an '01 Excella and has awnings on both sides and rear, solid blue material. I liked the stripes better but the solid is fine. Haven't been out in any heat like that earlier trip but I'm sure it will be somewhat more comfortable with awnings than without.

Full awnings and solar will make your new airstream a much more usable and pleasant trailer. And when buying as a new option, the price is negotiable.

The awnings make your Airstream feel and look cooler. They also help the fridge stay cooler. The solar lets you stop anywhere without a generator, using your propane system as primary energy source.

A maintenance note: Airstream is using foam gaskets to mount the awning support poles, as well as many fittings on the Airstream. They are inadequate, can allow minor leaks inside the walls, which can rot the wood subfloor. Mask off a border around them and apply a good RV sealant over the gaskets.

We have full length window awning on the street side and rear window awning.
they do provide shade. I like them.
On our other trailer that needs restoring I am not sure if I would go to the expense to get them for the windows. it is an 1960 overlander. in the old days they snaped a canvas cover on the top of the window. then when you opened the window you had an awning. I still have two original covers. anyone else seen this?
