Correct Zip Dee Arm hold position?

Hi all: We've got an '86 Sovereign with original awning. When traveling, the rear arm lock nut disc thingy sometimes comes loose. Once tightened down HARD, it stays. When we bought it from the seller he hit the end of the roller with a rubber mallet to shove it toward the front. I think he was just pushing it toward the front. I'm attaching photos. Are these in the correct position? The front counterpart is somewhat more upright, but would be also off-kilter if the awning were perfectly centered between the two.

I always wiggle mine with free hand while tightening with the other. They will work loose if not seated and tight. I don't use the rod thingy from the ground. Step stool and hands is way better.
