cautionary tale

Had some tree sap on the awning of our 2024 flying cloud. Zip Dee provides a Sunbrella stain chart which lists using turpentine and dawn dishwashing liquid to remove said sap. The turpentine left dark circles which was enhanced by a whitish circle around the dark.
Referred back to the Sunbrella cleaning guide and washed the whole awning with 303 multipurpose in hopes i could even out the discoloration caused by the turpentine and dawn, no luck.
Called Sunbrella and was told to clean with Acetone and Greased Lightening. Slight improvement to the dark discoloration, but still plagued with whitish circles. Now after all this cleaning the fabric no longer beads water, so we applied 303 fabric guard to restore the fabrics hydrophobicity. 303 fabric guard was extremely difficult to apply and seems to have further enhanced the discoloration issues.
I share this mostly to caution others, likely best to just live with tree sap!!
