Carefree Awning Failure - Any others see this problem?
Hello All -->
I'm curious if anybody has faced a problem related to Carefree Awnings:
1. Warranty Denials?
2. Quality Issues?
3. Product Failures?
If so, would you mind sharing or linking to your original post (if you did a post) describing your problem or quality concern?
We are seeing two problems on our 11 month old AS Interstate. The first problem relates to Wind/Gust sensor inoperative, and the second relates to fabric failure near the inner edge (versus out at the perimeter of the awning).
Carefree suggested the fabric damage might have occurred under this scenario:
[I]Van owner may have left awning deployed during a hail stormand should pursue an insurance claim
RIGHT O chaps ...the hail came down ferociously and when it was just about to strike the shiny black paint of the van, the HAIL veered hard right to strike only the awning base edge vs the entire awning or the leading edge of the awning.
I'm sure all of us deploy an awning during a HAIL storm (caps seems like fun here)
Anyway - I've been a big supporter of the Carefree product since it's intro in 2017. Until they are claiming user error, and not taking care of their product fabric failure. Have been advised for only $1,000 I can get the fabric replaced and bring the product back to brand new status.
Our van was purchased brand new 11 months ago, and our (new to us dealer in NM) dealer suggested AS warranty denied the claim as well - suggesting HAIL damage might be a reasonable explanation.
Since we have a 2018 4x4 Lounge unit complete with all the known issues of a new assembly build line in 2018, and since the van sat on the LazyDays Minnesota lot for 14 months ... unsold (it was marked on lot as a 2wd family van... lol) ... I'm thinking the issue is related to Lot Rot and or improper awning assembly in Jackson.
Can't be sure, but the cracks, slits appear as if the fabric is brittle ... hmmm
I was also advised I could "duct tape" the lesions (my word, not theirs ...) and still have a funcitonal awning until the duct tape wore away.
Yep! Great Idea (no, not really)
