Unhappy Caravel Carefree Awning to Carport Style?

Help! After our shakedown trip in our new 1967 Caravel, we are already tired of banging into the awning arm of our Carefree Awning. I understand that we can detach the arms from the trailer and set this up Carport Style but where do we get the hardware or do we have to make it ourselves?
Here is a picture of the arms as they look now. I need some sort of a ground bracket I think?Thanx, Lisa
