Basecamp awnings
Considering an awning for our new BC. So far, only aftermarket options appear to be either the OVS Nomadic 2.0 from reparadise.com in SLC, or the "Moonshade" made by Moonfab.com.
Both offer specific mounting adaptions for the BC roof rail, thus eliminating the need to punch holes in our new aluminum!
Does anyone have any comments on these awnings? Or, suggestions on other brands out there?
Many thanks.

Give Matt Nelson @ Dragon Fly Tarps a look.
I've had one of his on my Taxa Cricket for 5 years, very high quality product and service. He will be doing mine when our Basecamp 20x arrives.
Cheers Tom

Thanks Tom. We’re waiting on our 20X delivery as well. Dragon Fly’s would appear to work (albeit a bit pricey). Have you discussed with Matt how they would attach to the BC (I think there’s “channel” rail that might accommodate an 11mm climbing rope (sewn in to the tarp edge) that would slide in the full length; similar to the attachments shown on the attached photo.
In any case, I may give Matt a call to confirm.
Dan

Inexpensive keder rail anchor
I made some inexpensive and decidedly low tech anchor points for my keder rail. I purchased some nylon bushings from the exotic section of Home Depot’s hardware isle and some paracord. They work great for anchoring a tarp to the side of my Basecamp.

I have the awning from reparadise. I like it a lot, but opening it is a bit of a challenge. For whatever reason, my curb side is always the one that is elevated, so setting up the awning is difficult due to height. It also slopes down quite a bit in that situation, with the poles at full extension.
On flat surfaces, it works really well, though. Annoying to install but worth the time. I don't have a picture handy of it, but it also looks cool, in my opinion.

Dan,
Keder soft extrusion is sewn into the awning and attaches to the the trailer at the extruded aluminum keder rail, no rain penetrates at trailer/awning junction.
We spend most of our summers on the Washington/Oregon coast, lots of rain and high winds this awning is just amazing.
Also he indicated that he has already built some Basecamp awnings.
Check out Matt's videos on the web site....informative!
Cheers Tom

Many thanks all! Very helpful. Talked to Matt and looks like the Dragon Fly will work best for us. He’s totally dialed in on the Basecamp features as it relates to conforming to his system

Pole and tarp
REI gold tent poles and whatever tarp on Amazon hits your price point. I would recommend the 8’ poles.

Moonshade is one great option. They have eyebolts like the ones pictured in the comments above designed to hook your moonshade to the rail. It's less waterproof than other options, but you can seal the seams which helps quite a bit. We use a couple of them on our back porch at home.
Personally our ARB awning on our previous trailer was my favorite awning, it really stood up to some serious weather conditions. So if we did it again, we'd probably go with the ReParadise kit.

Wow! First other person I've seen on here who moved from a TAXA trailer to an Airstream. We had a Cricket and then a Mantis.

I am looking at an awning solution for our Basecamp. I think I have decided on the moonshade. I was looking at the eye hooks that attach to the rail system. The question I have is do you leave the eye hooks connected to the rail at all times or do you remove and install them each time you set up the moonshade?

We have Moonshades in our backyard, and just wanted to share a couple notes.
1) To your question, I’d leave them on. I see no reason not to. But I don’t own a Basecamp.
2) They are not very water resistant. The leak, primarily through the seams. Seam sealing helps a ton, but be careful. The shade is not taught enough when setup to keep the fabrics near the seams from sticking a little. And if you pull them apart after they have been sealed it can tear off layers of the nylon. I’m not honestly sure the best way to manage this, TBH, but words of caution from my bad experience.

Small Basecamp Awing
Does anyone make a small awing that just covers the side door? Something that just covers you while you’re on the step

Smaller awning for base camp
Hi,
Contact Julie at PinkFlamingAwnings.com. She’s been making waterproof and decorative pole awnings that side into the Keder rail for many years and has great reviews. You can do custom or buy ready made. She’s done them for t@bs, etc.

I came from a Taxa Cricket as well. In a 16x now. I’ve only had one trip out in the basecamp and honestly there were some aspects of the Cricket I liked better, but I obviously need to give the 16x more time to get comfortable with it….
