Basecamp awning

Hello, anybody would know if the awning rail on the base camp is a Keder Welt?

I am thinking of doing a diy awning using a silicone tarp with a keder rope that would fit in the anwning rail, Thanks

Am interested in how your's comes out; I would like to make it bigger and more waterproof to sit under.
2018 has started well- 2 trips with rain and NO rain leakage through the vents.
Thanks to Southland and AS!!
My big trip- Ga to Oregon.

I tested in the bigger awning also!

I’m so glad to hear your problems seem resolved, KayakGa! Crossing fingers for you, and good luck on the trip.

That looks great! How did you attach the rope to the tarp? Sewn directly together, or through a pocket?

Marierca, that looks great! What size tarp did you use? This is on my "Must do immediately" list. Thanks for the inspiration.

Looks great, nice work!

Very light weight and easy to stow the components. Do you have an easy way to lower one of the outer corners when it rains? That tarp will get very heavy, very quickly, when rain water collects in the center.

Or install some brass grommets in the center as drain holes. See ideas in these search results using the new search function in the blue box above:

We used a tarp on our van conversion, with telescoping poles for the corners. At night, in rainy country, I lowered the 8’ tall poles down to minimum, about 4 feet to assure rain would run off. Adjusted the guy lines to keep the tarp as tight as possible. Could still get out sliding door if needed.

Other option for fall

We put together two tarps for added wind protection!

Welcome to the forums.
Is there something wrong with the factory awning?

The Basecamp doesn't come with a factory awning. There is a "visor", which is handy for keeping sun and light rain off the door and side window, but nothing that you can really spread out and sit under. There are also side and rear tent options.

Do you replace the black rubber strip in the keder rail after every use or just leave it out? For that matter, do you take it out around the entire perimeter?
