Awning questions for 1966 Overlander

Hi All,
I am wanting to put an awning on my 1966 Overlander. It has the awning track, but does not appear to have ever had arms attached, so I think it may have had a pole awning???
Does anyone know the best place to purchase an awning for a '66. I think I would prefer one with arms as apposed to poles.
Are they hard to install?
Any tips to share, I would greatly appreciate the help.

Awnings

Go to the vintage Airstream site and buy the one you want.........or go to a local awning/tent/canvas shop and have one made. I just had one made up at an awning shop in Denton Texas......inexpensive and just like I wanted.....66 Caravel......... I am sure there are similar shops in your area. If you want a Zip Dee.....just go to them.

I installed a ZipDee on my trailer earlier this year. It was not that hard to install. The awning is a little pricey, but they are the best.

Zip-Dee

Robin,

If you are going to spend the kind of $$$ for an awning, then Zip-Dee is the only way to go for an Airstream! You will NOT be disappointed!! I'm a dealer for them, as well as Carefree and A & E, but the Zip-Dee is the best around.

Check out their web site and use the link to the Sunbrella page to look for fabrics. If you like, let me know what you would like to get and I'l get you a 'forum' price. They are very easy to install if you have the awning rail in place...as you do, and Zip-Dee has all of the size specs on file for just about any Airstream.

Awning

Robin, You may also want to check with Steve at Vintagetrailersupply.com. He has added pole awings to their inventory and may have something that would interest you...FYI Ed

Check with Andy at Inland RV also. He discounts them 10%. I ordered mine from Inland and they had it shipped to my house in Phoenix. Delivery was $135 which I paid to the truck driver when it was delivered. Go Suns!

Thanks for bringing up this topic Robin. I just finished my new axle installation and have been looking at adding a Zip Dee awning for the next project. The awning should be the last high priced item I need to purchase the rest of the year, and I'd like to get one ordered and installed ASAP. The wife and I are really liking this pattern http://www.sunbrella.com/cgi-bin/usa...l?SP=4783-0000 . And Lew, I'd definitely be interested in "forum" prices as well! Thanks, --dave
