I use WD-40 brand silicone spray. It is an excellant all purpose lubricant with many uses around the trailer, TV and house.

Blaster Advanced Dry Lube with Teflon, $4.99 at Home Depot.

Works amazingly well.

I prefer a silicone based spray lubricant. I found that WD-40, in general, leaves too much residue over time.

And it holds dust and grit. A dry lube is much better... silicone spray dries quickly after application leaving behind only the dry lubricating coating

We have used CRC food grade silicone for many years. Comes in an aerosol spray, and a pump spray. Part numbers 03040 and 03039.

Available through many hardware chains (Ace, True Value, etc.) and automotive channels. Google it.

I use silicone spray, which by the way is what Zip Dee recommends.

I prefer the WD-40 brand as I like the design of the can and the spray applicator. Note, this is not the original WD-40 product which would not be good to use on the awning mechanism because the original WD-40 product leaves a residue which attracts dirt. The original WD-40 product is also not really a lubricant but rather a water displacement product (hence the WD initials) to be used in conjunction with some other lubrication.

Here's a series of videos from Zip Dee showing maintenance and operations (including lubrication).
