My 2019 Flying Cloud ZipDee awning has a hook lock that you rotate in place with the long awning tool.
The attachment point of the rotating hook to the awning shell is getting loose - I cannot tell if this is a rivet or threaded connection, but I need to do something before I lose it.
Advice?

It should be a screw and a drop or two of loctite will take care of it.

If you ever have to buy a replacement travel latch kit, there is a tiny tube of Loctite in the kit.

Mine did fall off. It is a counter sunk allen head screw on the back. Loctite will do the trick if the threads in the hook are still good. Mine had wallowed out so dealer gave a new hook kit. I also found street side window awing hook loose and added loctite. No issues since.

We lost the original on a trip, and they sent me a new one. When we were at the factory, they said it is common problem. They installed a new one and did put the locktite on. No problems since that visit in October. It stays pretty tight when unlocking or locking. Good fix.

Yes, mine fell off and I replaced it with new one and Loctite.... seemed like it was 15 bucks or so for it. Unscrew it and add Loctite, should be fine.

When using loctite use green as it's self wicking also easier to remove fasteners as red very hard to remove bolts etc. some time have to use heat. Red is more permanent bond than green. IMO do not use red on awning hook, green on hook will not come loose/

If you are doing the repair yourself, be thoughtful about how much you tighten the screw after applying the LocTite. Try to find the sweet spot that is snug, but still allows the latch to swivel freely.

What nobody has said is that you need to pull out the awning about a foot and block it there with a cushion or something so you can reach the screw.

we probably forgot to mention this. It is so simple that we just forgot about it. If it was difficult, we will surely remember this well.

I could see the screw backing out. What I ended up doing was put the awning out all the way but in the down position. I then reached up with the awning pole and caught the hook so it could not turn. My wife was under the awning with a Philips head screw driver and tightened it. Turned out to be easy. We did use loctite.

Make sure that the Loctite LockThreat does NOT touch anything else than the screw in the hook. Do not put too much but a few drops would do just fine. Someday you might have to remove the hook so if too much Loctitle is in the hook, it may stay forever. Its gonna be hard to use torch to heat the screw in the hook cause its so close to the aluminum panel. A few drops will do. If you accidentally put too much, just stop and clean out the screw and do a do-over with a few drops.

I applied a few drops in one of the hook that had been loose and did the other hook as preventive measure.

Mine came loose too. I decided to put a small nylon spacer in there to help align the hook with the catch. Then Locktite the screw.
At first I thought it was a two person job, but as reported, if you just pull the awning out a foot, you can reach both sides.

BTW, Locktite comes in various strengths. Use the blue. (Which inexplicably comes in a red tube)
It can be removed.

Thanks for the recommendation to use Locktite 'green' versus 'red' - I wouldn't have known the difference regarding this specific application.

It can be removed.[/QUOTE Locktite has changed colors of tubes of red and blue. Reversed from when I last pur. It does not go bad after time as I still have & use red in red tube. Did not no of change of colors as have plenty left [all colors] that was given to me when racing.

As sent us a free placement as they DO NOT use lock tite at the factory even though it comes with lock tite from the OEM

we used lock tite and it has not come loose

I use clear fingernail polish instead of locktight. It has a nice little brush and is easier to put on. They sell it at just about any drug store.

My awning hook just fell off this morning. I'm camping and will be traveling tomorrow. I don't have lock tight with me (make note to self to add it to my tool kit).

If the awning wheels are tight is there any risk of traveling without the hook in place? What is the purpose of the hook anyhow?

FWIW, I've occasionally driven away without setting the hook lock on either side awning. Occasionally it unhooks on its own while driving. No issues experienced.

I had my awning come loose while towing some years back...saw it outside my mirror and horror feeling....pulled over and used duct tape to secure. On my currant 2017 model, I lost the hook/latch early on; AS mailed me a new one with the locktite tube. I installed and no more issues. Not a good feeling to see your awning opening while driving on the interstate at 65 or so!
