Here are some pictures of my homemade awning. Yesterday I was at Harbor Fright tools and found this canvas (although it looks more like muslin) 9X12 Drop cloth for $12.99. I not expecting spectacular results although it seems to be pretty strong and water beads on its surface. I am gluing (that’s right gluing) screen porch spline into the fabric. With some scotch guard, wooden poles and some rope I should have a pretty vintage looking awning for under 75 bucks!

I knew that algebra book would come in handy.

I am about to make my own awning -- did you finish yours? What's a spline?

I did finish mine but I didn’t post it. The fabrics thread count was to low for it to be water proof so I am awaiting for something a little thicker (Backorderd). The Spline is a bead of material sewn or glued onto one end of the awning. The spline is slid into the awning track and holds the awning on.

Thanks for the explanation! It's too bad the canvas didn't work. Do you plan to put a horizontal bar along the awning on the opposite long edge? Or just use the vertical wooden poles to stretch it?

I think in most pole awnings you use the poles to stretch it tight.

How did you (or are you) going to do the grommits for the poles to pass through?

This awning of mine isn’t rely easy to set up (actually it’s a pain in the a**) Like I said or eer... wrote this isn’t exactly a Zip Dee. At 20 Years old I don’t exactly have a lot of money

. Going to collage is expensive. Some of you millionare airstreamers may think this project is a bit strange

and I can understand that. As an airstrem owner I reserve the right to be strange.

BTW A horizontal bar at the end would make it easier to roll up but in a rain shower it may cause the water to run off the sides and splash mud on your pink flamingos.
