Awning Brackets - How to Attach to Trailer ?

Howdo Trailer Mates,

I have a 1964 Tradewind with an A&E awning.

The upper LH bracket broke a couple of years ago, as seems to be case with these brackets. No problem I'll replace it I thought and I did manage to find an acceptable replacement.

But the problem is, the original bracket itself was just bolted into the trailer skin (!?) which did not seem to me to be particularly good design.

I tried to use self tapping bolts into the original holes, but that's not going to work.

Does anybody know the correct way of attaching the bracket to the trailer ?

The feet of the new bracket look as though they should slide into something ?

I am close to just welding the new bracket (aluminim) onto a 10" square doubler plate and riveting the plate directly on the skin.

Any top tips ? (Apart from ditch it and buy a zipdee. . . )

Welcome to the forums. The thread 65GT sent you is a good start to getting your bracket attached. However, I liked your comment about getting a Zip Dee or maybe a Carefree awning. I have an A&E awning which gives me nothing but headaches each time I open or try to close it. On our 75 we had a Carefree which was wonderful and never gave us a lick of trouble.
Good luck to you and again welcome to the forums.
