'77 Ambassador with no awning

Hi, We're new here. We're considering buying a 1977 29' Ambassador that doesn't have an awning or any awning rail or parts. I guess it never had an awning. Where could we find an awning or info for it? How hard would it be to install an awning system when it's never had one? I've seen awnings with cool bent arms on other airstreams, is that original? Can I get those? Is it expensive?

Thanks for any help. We're trying to decide wether or not to buy this Airstream.
Our only camper was a 1971 Apache and it had an awning when we bought it.

Hi. You can get a new awning from Zipdee, just make sure you get the stuff with the curves in he arms for Airstreams.
Welcome to the forums.

The curved arms were on A&E or Carefree of Colorado awnings. Neither company currently sells those awnings anymore. You can get a ZipDee for the trailer. It will cost you about $1500 + shipping + labor to have one installed.

I am surprised that you do not have a rail on the curb side of the trailer. Airstream has been installing that rail for a very long time. Your trailer should have one. Installing a new rail will increase the cost of the awning install.

I know when we first got our trailer, we didn't think we had an awning rail either. It's smaller than I was thinking it ought to be...it looks like this:

I would be surprised if a 1977 didn't have one.

Thanks for all of your help. The photo in particular was helpful. You're right it does have a rail. It's just so tiny.

We're strongly considering buying this airstream but worried about towind anything that big. Maybe I'll go find the right forum to ask about that next

Thanks again!
