65 globetrotter

can you add an awning to a 65 globetrotter? I am thinking of purchasing one but really would like an awning. I know some purists will cringe but thats not me.

Yes, you can add an awning to your 65.

BUT, be extremely careful what brand you pick.

The arms must be shaped to the contour of the trailer.

The only company that still has the correct shaped arms for a 65, is Zip Dee.

Typically, if you buy another brand, and install it, and then you learn of the improper fit, they will not take it back.

You have options

Instead of going through the expense of a roll up awning, have you looked into a rope and pole awning? Check out a website "Marty's Vintage Trailer Awnings" (www.trailerawning.blogspot.com). She makes awnings custom for trailers. Also, has the sunbrella material with the stripes running in the correct direction. Todays material runs in the opposite direction. I replaced the material in my roll up Zip Dee and rebuilt the frame assembly.
Hope that helps.

I don't think we have many purists on this board to bother you!

I've seen vintage with awnings, and ones with pole awnings, and I have to say I like the vintage pole awning look better. There's nothing wrong with either one, so just pick what suits you. So if you question is 'after I buy it can I add one?', the answer is yes, no problem at all.

This is my '65 GT fitted with a pull out awning.

I've not had the courage to open yet and it will definitely need new fabric, but at least you can get the idea of what it'll look like folded up.

As for the purist aspect, go with what suits you, enjoy it and let the purists spend thier cash and enjoy what they want.
