No...it's the buffing after wax or sealing application that needs to be done horizontally with the grain.

I would recommend going with a ceramic coating, not certain what I had used on our Airstream, but it has held up really well for a couple of years. I had talked with the guys at Autogeek about what they would recommend. Required prepping to remove old wax, and was very easy to put on and polish
Collinite Wax is the longest lasting wax I've ever used, 1 year in brutal environment

Certainly better options for an Airstream.

YMMV

Bob

From the web site you cited:

"Does [Nu Finish] the Once a Year Car Polish Actually Work:

The simple answer is YES. And if all you are looking for is something that works, then you need not go any further."

*************

Of course it would not be used at detailers and body shops. Why would anyone PAY someone to use the same stuff that the average Joe uses??? If I'm paying someone to polish something, they better be using something fancy!

But I'm certainly not going to use something on a camping trailer that one would apply to a show car, either. We just want something that's easy to apply and works for a reasonable length of time. Nu Finish, as well as several other products, are easy to work with, and actually do work.

"Going with the grain" means ... what?

I have to confess, I don't see a grain in the Airstream aluminum.

The rock (segment protectors) are stainless steel, not aluminum. Many people seem to be using WD-40 to clean them. Another option is mineral oil. I don’t think there’s any need to wax the rock guards.

There is definitely a "grain" in the aluminum. Look at it from an angle in the sunshine and you will see it. If you rub it (like in washing it) going the wrong way you will develop hairline scratches which will become noticeable over time.

I learned this lesson, and many others, the hard way!
