What grit Compounds should I use.

I have started the polishing process on our '72 Land Yacht. I have stripped it using Premium Stripper from Home Depot and I polished a small (2' X 2') area using a small tube of automotive scratch remover.

I can't locate any information on what grits of compounds I should use to do the job. The automotive paint store sells compounds with grits from #1 to #24, any suggestions?
