two cyclo polishers nine bucks
hey gang,
rickstream and I hit the annual badger steam and gas show to check out the cool old tractors and stuff.
they have a swapmeet there for tools tractor parts farm junk etc.
anyway, cheeseheads 2 swapmeet vendors 0
nice score!
mine was 4 dollars, rick's was five.
my next question is, we have the polishers. what type of compound do we use if we want to polish a 74 excella?
you shiney southerners feel free to chime in, but play nice guys.
i do understand that sweatshirt material is the way to go, those wool bonnets look like they would rough things up a bit.

why of course i will!
the cord is easy, it's the rest of the farm thats gonna take a while!
found some electrial boxes at work last week, two outlets one 20 amp conventional and one 30 amp RV. in nice rain tight boxes.
we'll have all sorts of places to plug airstreams in soon! and cyclos too!

I thought you didn't need a cyclo with SS.  Oh well I ordered a bottle, will try it out on the roof where the clearcoat is peeling, and maybe the lower part of the belly pan that is showing. I have a chink Wen polisher, and an air powered orbital. I'll report back when I get the SS.
Good deal John I may start rummaging around garage sales again.

Most people who use a Cyclo also use a compound polisher if the trailer hasn't been polished recently. If you don't use a compounder then you need a course grade of polish, since the Cyclo doesn't have theower/speed of a compounder.
Get a cheap compounder Southern Shine or not would be my advice.

gave it a try
waxed the excella today with the cyclo today, i put sweatshirt material over the wool bonnets.
have to say it cut the waxing time by at least 2/3. even went over the trailer twice!
it is a quality tool, left no swirl marks in the finish. way fast!
i would reccomend one for anyone with a later model trailer that hates to wax or walbernize.
best 4 bucks i ever spent!

We are in the process of polishing right now and are using the line of polishing compounds from an online site called topoftheline.com
These have worked out GREAT! It really gets the shine to come out like nothing we've tried before.
The first step takes out the oxidation, the second one gets more off, the third is fine polishing creme and the last step seals it all in for a year's worth of beautiful shine.
We've done this once before and this second shining is much easier than the first time.
The whole line is a little pricey but we've only bought it once and doing the whole trailer a second time we're noticing we might get two more polishing's out of the set....that's four years worth, so it seems like a good deal.
The shine has held up in every kind of weather from snow/ice/salt to the heat of Palm Springs, Cali and the beach areas of southern california - that's good....

John HD- I paid $275.00 for my cyclo polisher, new of course. I still think it was a great deal factoring in the savings of the time i spend poilishing. My AS is only one of the things I have to polish. Add all the vehicles and the carpet shampooing ability those polishers are a good deal at any price. You must be ecstatic--$4.oo, wow!

SS -only done a bit with hand polishing. Two things -
There are two grades you can get - course and fine We got both. Course on a test spot - will cut through our clear coat on the 69. The fine will be fine ( no pun) on the 61.
But most important - more is not always better.Use it sparingly or you will have a black mess - not on the cloth but on the trailer.
I can not wait to get at ours next summer - but sure wish we could spot one of those swaps....

nope!
i smile every time i see it sitting on the shelf in my shop!
i really does cut down on the time it takes to wax the excella! i'm sure polishing with one is an entirerly different matter though...

I started with Rolite Pre-Polish and compounded with a Makita varible speed polisher #9227C. I bought the Makita from a place after doing a Yahoo search for around $64 including shipping. I then Cycloed used Rolite polish and finished with AP300.
If I had to do it over again I would use Nuvite in 3 different grades. I did buy some Nuvite C and it seemed to cut a little better than the Rolite mid-grade. It also cleared up any of the black residue faster. I will probably buy some Nuvite S also since I need to start working on the '86 roof at the end of winter.
