Stripping is a *****
Started out with Citristrip. Did a great job of taking the clear coat off in sheets. Used it 3 or so more times for the stubborn areas. Nothing. Tried airplane cleaner. Nothing. Bought the new Restore all product. It works but only about an inch per hour (or so it seems). I've applied about 5 coats of that and it has taken some of the stubborn spots out, but not all. I've left it on for 1 hour, 5 hours, overnight, etc. I'm applying it with a brush and washing it off with a long handled brush attached to hose. That works a little, but I've taken to just scraping it inch by inch with a plastic dish scrubber that works well. But at this rate I'll be finished about 5 years after I'm dead. Help.

Rustoleum Aircraft Remover
Miserable stuff on your skin, but it takes clear coat right off.

I agree. Rustoleum Aircraft Remover works. If it doesn't, there's no clear coat left in that spot.
Protect yourself, especially your eyes! Nasty isn't a strong enough word.
Water neutralizes it almost immediately, so have a garden hose handy with the shutoff at the nozzle so you can get to it quickly. You will get some on your skin somehow, and it stings like the dickens.
Use plenty of water and scrub along the seams to be sure you get all the stripper off the aluminum. It will cause bad corrosion if left there long term.

Is sounds like you have done a very thorough job and it should be all gone, is it possible that you actually have all the clear coat off and have just gotten to areas where the previous clearcoat was thin or gone and the aluminum is just oxidized??
Can you post a picture for those that have gone through this process to see if they can help you??

Oh another tip though if there is indeed still clearcoat on there is to cover the stipper in plastic wrap or wax paper. It keeps the solvents that do the work of stripping from evaporating off too quickly. I saw an old heritage house in my neighbourhood covered in what looked like Glad cling wrap and I wondered what the heck was up. The next day after work when i drove by again the entire huge 120 years worth of paint, two story house was completely down to bare wood.. Pretty freaking impressive..

I stripped my 25 ft wide body with Remove all 4000 (not sure that's exact name) from Vintage Trailer supply. It is a non toxic, biodegradable stripper that is outstanding. Applied it with a paint brush let it sit for 4-5 hours and rinsed it off with a garden hose. Stripped the whole trailer in 2 days. The clear coat came off in sheets, let it dry on the driveway and swept it up no muss no fuss.

I tried the link to Vintage Trailer Supply and couldn't find anything on Remove All 4000 - I'd love the exact name. I'm interested in the biodegradable stripper.
thanks.

Removal has done 3 trailers and a Classic Moho for me. One tub did two 30' trailers.

Stripping
Just stripped my 92 25. I used a product I bought at Lowes. I have been stripping with remover for many years and this stuff is Nasty & Good ! Comes in a gold gallon can with black lettering and was close to 30 $ @can and again, its nasty. Even with rubber gloves, the heat comes right thru.

YES - but if you strip, you need to polish and that's at lest 2 weekends of work - Vintage trailer supply . com has a page that will give you step by step instructions on how to do the stripping and polishing. Don't want to plug a company but they have helped many AS people. for more info call 888 628 4404 and ask to speak with Zack the customer relationship manager. Know these guys and gal personally and can assure you they will do the very best they can to help answer any questions you have on restoration of AS and other vintage trailers. I use many different vintage parts companies and they are one of the best at advice out there

It was called Removall 220. Sorry to say it is no longer sold in the US. I see vintage trailer supply has a replacement

This is one of my pesky spots. Just used the rustoleum.
Looks like the clear coat is still there. How on Gods green earth I don't know because I have spent many weekends using many products. Will try Saran next over Citristrip.

The grey blotches are oxidation from where the coating was thin or non-existent. If you don't plan on going to a bright polish try Bon Ami bathroom cleaner to see if you can buff to oxidation out. (Try on an inconspicuous area first)

Thanks! That was beginning to be my suspicion. I have actually polished about half of the trailer so far, up to the final duo cycle part. So I will polish it. Since it was splotchy it fooled into thinking it was clear coat. This is on the top of the trailer, so it makes since that the clear coat should be about gone anyway.

I used this product from Vintage yesterday http://www.vintagetrailersupply.com/...-p/vts-574.htm
Soaked for 2 hrs then power washed it off. Wouldn't recommend power washing unless you plan to reseal panels. PO had used silicone on seams and this product loosened and removed it. Perfect for me. Interior has already been demo'd in order to address sealing from the inside.

Because the power washer will drive water under the outer skins I wouldn't use it unless you have the inside skins off - IMHO. Your hose with a sprayer attachment will work fine. Most of my clearcoat was sliding off even before spraying.
