Smile Run his prints, Danno...

Preparing for a trip next week to Disneyworld, I Walbernized (Walbernize is a wax for Airstreams) my Overlander for the first time since getting it this past December. Before that, it had probably been more than 20 years since anything was done to the skin.

Interesting thing is that several distinct hand smudges became apparent after the Walbernize was hand buffed off. The picture below shows the best example. In it you can see where someone layed his palm on the skin before the TV antenna was mounted. It had to have happened at the factory.

The print appears to be on the aluminum skin, and not on the clearcoat.

Although most of the clearcoat on the roof has eroded away, the clearcoat on the sides of the Overlander came out looking pretty good.

I just thought it was interesting.

Looks good Tom!

So you just washed it and waxed it with Walbernize?

Just curious. Walbernize has a few different products to use, dependent upon the finish of your trailer. Which one did you use?

I am an FBI trained, court-qualified fingerprint examiner. I did a comparison based on the photo supplied. That hand print belongs to Jimmy Hoffa. OK, Tom, I have a few questions for you...

Could be 'Etching'

The acids in our skin can & do 'etch' metal. Especially non-anodized aluminum. If the print is under a clear-coat there is not much you can do without removing the coating. If it is in the coating there is a product I've just heard of called 'Nanowax' that might help. I'm going to try it later this week on some minor scratches in the clear-coat of our A/S. Walbernize will not remove the ones I'm referring to.

The folks at Walbernize told me that the Super Seal is their suggested product for the precoated Alcoa finishes or a trailer that has been recently clear coated. It has the least amount of abraisives in it. Dependent upon how much oxidation you had, there are two other grades of the Walbernize product that might just get that hand print out. You can check out the Walbernize site at www.walbernize.com

Regards,

Jack
