Rubrail damage or delamination?

On our 2014 Flying Cloud, I noticed that the rubrail looks strange in certain areas. Please see the photo. Does anyone know if this is some kind of delamination? Or is it simply a protective film that was never removed?

Welcome to the forum.
The protective film is blue in color. If what you see is silver, it is part of the rubrail insert.

Sure looks like de lamination of the the silver coating from the rub rail insert. We have the same thing happening on our 2011.

Delamination.....Most of my sliver was already peeled off when I got my trailer.

Our 2015 AS had the same thing. The factory authorized a warranty replacement.

Yep, we have the same thing on our 2011. It looks horrible! For such expensive trailers, I would have expected this part to last a lot longer. There is a good thread about replacing it somewhere here on Airforums but I can't find the post right now. The post has suggestions for where to buy a replacement and how to install it.

Unfortunately, there is no way to bring it back. Replacing it with new railing is not difficult. Most important is to clean the area where the new rail goes in. I did the upper & lower rub rail on my 2000 34' A/S and added a rivet in line with others above & below on the outer body skipping every other one. Why? In AZ the sun can work quickly to melt the adhesive that comes with the railing. You know the rest of the story!! The cost seems a bit much. As I recall, it was around $3.50 a foot & you could only order specific lengths.

You can buy the trim at Auto Zone. I think it comes in 12 ft lengths. Not as thick but much cheaper.

Like Louie De, my trailer required the full monte replacement after 11 years.

I used the original (bought in bulk) for significantly less than $3.50 a foot. The product is Protekto 37-715 and here a sample link to an internet source:

https://www.carid.com/cowles/protekt...pn-37-715.html

I was able to locate a 100' spool for $95, including shipping, and it took 64' to do my trailer. The remainder was used on fellow traveler's Bambi. The job was fairly simple; the most time consuming issue was cleaning the subsurface with mineral spirits to ensure adhesion. It took about 2.5 hours to do the whole trailer.

I have used Cowles product on my pick up trucks for years to protect them from door dings. They make great product and the 3M tape they use to attach the trim is very durable.

We had the same problem on our 2015 and had it replaced at JC. The tech told me the new product they now use is better but only time will tell. You may get a good price from the parts guys at Out of Doors Mart in North Carolina. The are good guys to deal with.

Delaminated moulding

Many thanks, everyone, your responses. I had hoped for better news about the moulding (like - just peel off the film!), but now I have several choices to deal with the problem. Once I decide on a course of action, I'll let you know how it worked out.
