Looking for a polisher in the Los Angeles area

We just picked up a 1973 31' Sovereign! She needs some exterior work. Does anyone have recommendations for a polisher in the Los Angeles area?

I got several quotes and just had ours polished for $2G (31' - '85 Excella = $64.50 a foot, including the tanks!). It seemed like a great price, especially since I got one quote for $5G.

Several phone calls led me to Marcos in Castaic (661) 209-1278 - just north of Santa Clarita). It took him about a week and a half. We are VERY happy with the outcome. As you can see, its a night and day difference. A lot people even ask if it's new.

We also found a guy in your area (Simi Valley) that works on AS's too (no polishing). Kenny (805) 207-7421 He installed the segment protectors and did some other misc. work for us.

Tell him/them Tracy sent you (I figure people like to know that they're work is appreciated enough to be recommended )

Trailer Polish

Give a look/call to Mel Trailers located at 1040 Hoover Ave in Orange, CA. Phone number is 714-639-8471. These guys do unbelievable work! They also have a web site, just google. I have had work done by them and will have no one else but them touch my '78 Avion. Your contact person is Albert, if no answer leave a message and he will get back to you. Tell them Verta recommended.

Beautiful work!

Do you wax her now? How long before it will need to be polished again?

No, I haven't waxed it. He said occasional washes will maintain it for quite a while. The first time around obviously was the most expensive as he had to strip the clear coat (it was already off in a lot of places) and remove 30 years of wear.

I had to clean up/repolish a couple of spots where some birds left their mark and there was still plenty of grime coming off on the cloth. So I'm sure he could have gotten it even better looking with another pass.

The polisher said it will probably need to be repolished in 2-3 years but only cost $500-$1G because all of the hard work was done the first time around.

He said Windex can be used to clean water streaks and touch it up. I haven't really heard one way or another about the Windex and will have to read up. I asked about stainless steel appliance polish/cleaner (being new, I'm asking all sorts of questions) he said absolutely not.

I agree with your wife - money well spent! Are there any Airstream model years that cannot be polished to a finish like that? More recent years? It looks beautiful!

Marcos from Castaic is AWESOME!

My husband and I restore Airstreams for extra income in our retirement, and we have used many, many polishers over the years. Marcos is BY FAR the best we have ever used, and reasonable at $100 a linear foot. Took him less than a week to complete (20 foot camper). Before and after pics to follow! Cris and Dan

It is now bare aluminum so no matter how much buffing you do, if you use polish on a cloth it will come out black for all of time. Just the nature of the beast with any bare metal, especially aluminum.
