handheld steamer - another tool in the arsenal

Hello, the previous owner applied packaging tape in a futile attempt to stop a leak, and left it on there to solidify for about 5-8 years! I tried just about every solvent to remove it but it wouldn't budge, and tried scraping with a plastic scraper and razor blade. I was about to give up, and then my neighbor kindly gave me a handheld steamer. It warmed the old tape & adhesive sufficiently to blast it off with the pinpoint steam jet and/or work it off with a rag. The scratch marks are from the plastic scraper, and I'm wondering if there's a fix for that.

Since then, I've discovered that the steamer in combination with a toothbrush, that it's excellent for cleaning grime out of seams in preparation for resealing. I think it'll have other uses too.
