Gibbs vs. WD40 for Rock Guards
I know it’s common to use WD40 to condition rock guards. I’ve used it and liked the results. I carry Gibbs Lubricant in the trailer instead of WD40 because I’ve always really liked it. A while back I decided to use it instead of WD40 on the rock guards while spiffing up the trailer. The effect is about the same, but my experience with Gibbs is that it lasts longer than WD40. So Gibbs (he was a Harley mechanic) is my new go to for rock guards.

How do you keep either of these from streaking and smearing the rock guards? It would make them difficult to see through.

I might have used the wrong terminology (you did a great job of posting that with a straight face ). I’m referring the the lower stainless steel guards. Do they have a different name?

Those are known as segment protectors.
There is a product for them, stainless steel polish.

WD-40 tends to collect dust and hold dirt, and it evaporates quickly. Two things I've tried, one was Lemon Pledge. I used to use this on Harleys. The other is ceramic coatings. Lots o luck.

I use Weiman stainless steel cleaner and polish, it works very well, doesn’t attract dust, cleans road grime, and easy to use.

Glare
I have tried WD - 40 Stainless cleaners etc it looked Ok
In Corona boredom meltdown after polishing the trailer with Glare 4 times I tried Glare on the stone shields. The microfiber turned black it was a mess.
However what I found it was pulling out dirt ,grime and oil. After three coats of Glare it now shines better is smooth to the touch and if I apply another coat of polish no black microfiber residue.
I Do not know how this will hold up. Time will tell
