Algae on the roof

I have a 2005 safari with the white painted roof. I have some algae growth in the seems and around some rivets. What is a good product to safely remove it without paint damage?

Try this stuff

I had that ugly brown/back mold looking stuff on the roof of my Airstream. Put it on about 15 months ago and it took care of the job. You really don't have to scrub, just spray it on and forget about it. It has a residual effect that prevents regrowth for a period of time, too. I haven't climbed up there recently to check on it, I'll try to take a look on Sunday.

However, there are some caveats here. Mine is a '73 that has lost most of the clear coat. Sounds like you need to use it on the painted surface as well as elsewhere. Call them and discuss how you want to use it. I suspect your roof paint is a lot like automotive paint, the bottle label doesn't specifically mention automotive applications. But I suspect it will work. Call them first, their customer service people are top notch.

We live in the algae capital of the US. On buildings we use water with chlorine bleach and TSP. I do not use that on the AS because of the damage I think it might do to the plastic (Fantastic Fan covers and the skylight). What works for me twice a year when I wax the trailer is car soap and water with a wide nozzle on my 1200 psi pressure washer at about 2' from the roof. Don't get too close or use too much pressure. Also, make sure the washer is either on the roof of the trailer with you, or protect the trailer from the pressure hose rubbing on the clearcoat if the washer remains on the ground (don't ask me how I know that).

I sprayed on 50/50 simple green/water and a car wash brush. Just keep rinsing right after scrubbing and rinse thoroughly as as it will stain aluminum and will leave marks if you let it dry. I had to do some areas twice. Put a coat of polish on after if you are so inclined to make future cleaning easy.

Simple Green is great stuff I use it on green mould all the time. I use about a half a cup to a gallon. Keep in mind Simple Green is also a degreaser so if you have any wax on your trailer it will strip it off.

Griot's car wash with green scotch pad where needed. It will remove the algae and the white oxidation that streaks the side.👍
