Wire pantry woes

Does anyone else have problems with the adjustable wire pantry shelves?
Every time I move my flying cloud all of the shelving shakes free and everything is dumped out, the pantry door gets jammed. It seems to me that the hooks should have a curve to stop the shelving from popping off, has been frustrating as a full bottle of disarrano shattered and would up everywhere.

Not quite that bad, but on my Globetrotter I do have one that pops off occasionally when I pull the pantry out. It's happened more than once, but not often enough to entice me to do something about it.

We've not had a problem with that. As has been suggested, you could try zip ties. Unless you are adjusting the shelves often regular, cheap, small white ties would work and not be too obvious. You could just clip them off and replace when necessary.

This may seem an unrelated question, but how much air are you running in your TT tires? Especially when the shelves are loaded with stuff it seems like the trailer would really have to be bouncing around to get them to come loose from the hooks. Maybe the trailer is riding too stiffly.

Set your pantry shelves up to your liking. Use the little clear or white zip ties to secure. Problem solved. You may want to check your towing set up. To high of pressure in tires (we ran 60 psi cold in our 2017 23' AS and never had a problem), Does your tow vehicle have a very stiff rear axle spring?, is your WD hitch set up incorrectly? All of these things and probably a few more can make for a earthquake experience in the AS when heading down any unsmooth road.

I used the zip tie method and it works well.

Another tie wrap vote. Keep an assortment of tie wraps with the duck tape in a zip lock bag.Click image for larger version

Hi

Never had a problem, never used zip ties or anything similar. We've had all sorts of things in those shelves. The only thing I'd note is that they *do* have a practical weight limit. If you load them up to heavy, the "pantry gizmo" will not slide very well. Loading them up with the booze inventory (which in our case is pretty massive .... ) would not work.

I very much agree that if stuff is shaking loose, that suggests something is wrong beyond the shelves. We can leave things on tables and still find them in place after towing for 300 miles. (Just pulled into a campsite and did just that ....).

My 25’ international was a mess every time we arrived at our site. The wire pantry shelves, cushions were spread throughout, occasionally the glass cabinet in the bath opened and dumped items. I had to wedge paper towel between all of the sliding cabinets to keep them from opening. The dinette table collapsed a few times while driving. A speaker fell out of the ceiling, half the screws holding the microwave popped out.
My 30’ bunk is an entirely different story. Just like Uncle Bob (also a 30’) everything stays put. Throw pillows, blankets, soap forgotten on the counter. We even forgot about a glass of water in the cubby next to the queen bed. Nothing moves or spilled. I chalk it up to the additional weight. I suspect that the same axles are used on different models regardless of weight. As others have mentioned, try dropping the tire pressure slightly. Otherwise, start a good checklist of items to tie down. Like I mentioned, simple things like folding up a piece of paper towel and wedging it between two sliding doors keeps them from opening. Just be sure to keep the large glass bottles of tequila in the lower cabinets!

Just another data point. We regularly had the pantry shelves jump off until I zip tied them. The lower drawer next to the bed flew completely out once, so I run a bungee cord from the handle through the handle of the drawer above and then back to the magazine rack. A second cord runs the opposite direction.
My trailer tires are at 70 psi.
An ounce of prevention… and the wine is kept under the bed for travel.
Happy camping! I hope you have lost the last DiSarronno you ever will.

Great answers!

Thank you for the input, the tire pressure is okay, the hitch is correctly installed, I place only light weight items on the top shelves and no longer have that bottle of disoranno. Will use zip ties on my next venture out.

Mine as well. Picked up 23' FC FB from dealer yesterday. In 36 hours shelving dislodged from wire mounts twice. Big mess twice. Zip ties tomorrow. Very simple engineering problem could have been addressed in Ohio. (Make wire mounts 1/4" longer, bend tips of mounts, provide a dozen small zip ties). Seems to be design issue with smaller pantries. Also, upper mounts not usable due to latch obstruction.

Gotta set up a GoPro in the trailer for my next trip to get an idea how rough the ride is. Have not seen much evidence except my bathroom mirror was popped open on my last trip. Most likely we did not have it closed all the way.

I think you and I have a valid point why isn’t this being resolved at the factory. I had a Bambi 2020 prior to this Flying cloud and it had a simple wooden pantry/shelf at the door it never had a thing move on it, with a single axle??
I am disappointed in this design, I hope it gets resolved soon.

Been done....

3:55 is a good representation.

I rode in ours for 4mi over a two lane...and quickly realized that lowering the tire pressure did little to soften the ride.
