Window Rock Guard Twist Fastener and Gromet Won't Hold
The rock guard was a little out of alignment so the metal catch got slightly pushed in to far when trying to fasten it. Now it won't fasten. I replaced it with a new one but the same thing happened. Are there any tricks to get it working correctly again with replacing it?

Yes, but the misalignment cause the fastener to not be fully inserted past the metal clasp so when turning it caught in the clasp and caused it to turn in the rubber grommet, now the metal clasp is depressed too deeply into the grommet...

Just bumping the tread to see if anyone has an easy solution, otherwise I will remove the one I just replaced and then be more careful in aligning it before twisting the new one and causing the catch to sink back too far into the rubber.

The attached link shows pictures of how I through-bolted my window rock guards on by reusing my defective "twisting" rubber grommets. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f42/...ml#post1996232

I thought the were two pieces and tried to separate them, but that was a fail. I ended up using a Dremel but I wasn't too keen on that.

The retainer is a thin spring steel split washer and a small screw driver to pry it off at the split is no problem.
