What is this?

Can anyone tell what this is, it is just above the access door on street side of 1971 Tradewind.
I hope these pictures are viewble.

Early Fiber Optics. There are two fiber optic cables that run from your tail/turn lights to that thing sticking out of the roadside of the camper. When the lights are on, they should glow (probably orange). When you apply the brakes, they get brighter, when you use the turn signal, they blink (top for right, bottom for left, I think).

The trick is, you should be able to see them illuminate in your rear view mirror.

Prepare for hijack....

Yeah, my '69 Vette had this system just in front of the gear shift, for all the lights on the vehicle. Very cool, back in the day.

So why is it now that I'm driving a diesel with a spedo that only goes up to 80? Sheesh....

Airstream called it a "tail light monitor."

You can get a replacement cover, but I think that they are plastic. You know how long plastic things last here in the desert. Check out this link where a member had some new one made. http://www.airforums.com/forums/f381...ver-35489.html
I don't think he as any left, but he could point you to the shop where he had them made.
