I just got a Safari Land Yacht from my brother's estate. It has tandem axles, awning, twin beds, road side hanging "bunk"/shelf?, awning. It needs AC, elec. jack, replace front window stone shield etc. What length, year and other stuff I might know from the numbers. The numbers are;
Just got a Safari from my brother's estate with the following numbers, what do I have? Its got twins and a gaucho, swing down "bunk"/shelf, tandem axles, awning but I have to AC it and rig an elec jack. What year is it?
O 5966 FJ
L23T J1526

The year is the one number that's missing from the serial number plate.
You will find that number as it's between the "T" and the "J"
As an example if it's a 4 then you have a 1974, or a 5 then it's a 1975, etc.
In most cases, there should be an aluminum placard on the street side just behind the first seam past the rounded panel (near the bottom of the first "flat" panel) that will tell you of the month and year of the build date. It should also tell you the axle ratings and GVWR for the trailer and a few other pieces of info specific to your model trailer. On the older models, this placard is located to the right of the entrance door. Depending on the year will determine the location.

Must have had his granddaughter on the serial stamp that day, I can barely read a number between the T and the J it looks like a 2 maybe after I wipe some pencil lead on it. Did they make these things in 72?Is that hang down thing on street side over rear twin another bunk? Doesn't look heavy duty enough for a big person.

They made them from the 50's through the 70's, in slightly different incarnations. The bunks are made for kids, with something like a 65 pound weight limit. If you found a "2", you are the proud owner of a 1972 23 foot Safari, center twins, made in Jackson Center, Ohio.
