Vent Pipe Caps

What are some of the pros and cons of putting caps on roof vent pipes? The PVC sticking up through the roof looks a little unsightly to me. Other people's opinions would be appreciated. Thanks, Dom

Caps will help protect the gasket/sealant, not to mention looking better.

Chrome looking vent pipe caps have been used by Airstream for many years.

There also is a custom gasket that is used with it.
