Upgrade TV

Any recommendations on TV upgrades? I have a 2006 Safari that I would like a more dated television for. I live in Pennsylvania.

Samsung 28” is about as big as you can go. Works great.

TV usually means Tow Vehicle. I checked in to listen to the typical fight when this comes up.

We have the same trailer, well not the actual same trailer but the same model, and year too. I replaced my television with a Samsung. The original was so old I couldn't get channels when they changed the delivery system.

I did look into a 12 volt system but after reading here that they had their shortcomings as well, I just got one out of a store. I upgraded to a larger one a few years back and have had zero trouble with it. I leave it out all winter too and it hasn't "frozen up" as some said it could. Any decent brand television that fits in your space will work. I would not go cheap though.

Buying a TV for an Airstream isn't much different from buying one for a house. It is worth checking out reviews on sites such as RTINGS and cnet.

We are personally fond of the smart TVs produced by Samsung. Add an Internet connection and you're ready to stream Netflix and Amazon Video.

What is a "more dated" television?
Less modern? Certainly not a tube.

Other thoughts. Assuming it's mounted on a bulkhead (wall) measure how wide your space is. TV's are measured diagonally, and perhaps more important, the frames and the speaker location affect the horizontal measurement as much as the picture size.
All modern TV's are using the VESA standard mount, meaning it's pre-drilled for a certain hole spacing on the back to accommodate the mount. 100mm x 100mm, for example.
Go TV shopping with a tape measure.
Now for the real nitty gritty, after you decide on what you like, download the manual and see if it has inputs and outputs to accommodate your tech. It's really hard in the store because most TV's are mounted on the wall, and salespeople are not used to answering questions about connectivity.
All will have an HDMI or two. You may have a video camera you want to play on your TV.
Personally, I like an "audio out" either in analog (RCA plugs, 3.5mm mini) or digital (RCA or fiber) to connect to a soundbar, for example, since TV speakers are dinky today.

Samsung smart tv.

I installed a Samsung in my AS before they had the smart TV, so I just added a Roku streaming stick. It uses my internet (Verizon data). Not as good as a smart TV, but acceptable.

Hello Brett,

Just happened to see this is your first post and that you are literally just up the road from me.

Welcome to the forum. It's a good place to ask and share. It's good to have you with us.

Regarding your TV I agree with others. Buy what you would for your house and it should work well in your AS. Of course size does matter!

Best regards!

Bob

I vote for the Samsung. And not made in China.

Thanks, Bob. Is there a place locally that you would recommend to install a television in our Airstream?

Hi Brett,

My buddy (who also has an AS) had his TV installed at Colonial AS in New Jersey. It was a TV replaced under warranty. Otherwise I don't know who might install a TV.

You might want to contact the AS service department in Jackson Center and ask them what model they are putting in the new units and if you could purchase the attachment bracket. The bracket should fit the new TV that way.

I hope that helps a bit!

Bob
