Ultimate dumbness: I managed to lock myself inside the trailer

Have to slam the door to get the latch to catch and I thought some fresh lube would help. I used spray lithium lubricant on the outside parts, but decided to take the lock panel off and make sure the innards were lubricated too. Well I guess when I put it back together the handle pawl was not in the correct slot. I closed the door from the inside, and low and behold the handle would not open the door and I was locked in! Of course the way the screen door sits I canít get access to the screws to open the lock panel so I was stuck. Fortunately, my daughter was nearby and she was able to just open the door from outside.

Great design there Airstream (or whoever does their locks). Iíd hate to have had to go out the rear emergency escape window. Probably would break my neck.

I did the door handle modification this year to prevent being locked inside the Airstream. The OE door handle design is flimsy. I’d also hate to climb out the emergency hatch/window!

Thanks. Amazed no one has been injured or worse not being able to escape and sued them into fixing this problem

I was working on a shock replacement on an old Galaxie years ago and wind slammed the trunk while I was laying inside on the floor. At least in my younger years I had enough strength in my hands to open the latch from inside by pushing the mechanism with a finger. This was long before all the inner workings of a car were covered with beauty panels and the workings were easily accessible.
