The lower trim on our 2017 FC is coming off (2 picture attached). I’ve tried Gorilla double sided tape and while it works, it is not perfect. Any recommendation on a more permanent solution?

If it is the vinyl pulling back or coming out of the channel that is shrinkage. Not sure on the newer trailers but on the older ones they placed a metal cap at each end and a pop rivet through it and the vinyl strip to hold it in place.

Looks like it was brake time at the factory when that was supposed to have been installed.

Not an uncommon problem. You can repair by using 3M VHB TAPE. 1/2” for top and 3/4” for the bottom.
Pull the trim away from the trailer approx 1’ or until it has a good bond. Be careful not to over flex the trim because the chrome will wrinkle. Remove the old adhesive from the trim and channel. Apply the new 3M VHB tape in place and them restock the trim in the channel.

I have a similar problem, however the ENTIRE trim piece is loose, not just the inner trim. Same solution using 3M VHB? Or do I need to use different kind of glue/sealant?

John,
You have a screw loose....... haha.
No you will need to remove the chrome inner trim and replace the screws or poprivits that are under it. You can then use 3M VHB to reattach the innertrim piece back to the channel.

GMFL/Ronnie, Thanks very much for the info and pics! This is an easy repair now that I know how it's attached. We just returned from 10k mile trip to Alaska and back. I was on top of screws coming loose during the trip, at least the ones I could see. Thanks again!

Ah....that makes a lot of sense. I ended up stopping at Walmart when running errands to see if they had VHB tape. They do not. However, they did have a 3M tape made specifically for auto trim. I tried to see how the two tapes compared by looking online, but I could not figure it out. I ended up buying the tape and the trim as been fixed by applying about a 6" piece of tape near the end of the loose pieces of trim. Seems to work very well.

I have this exact problem on the exact same piece. A few questions for @GMFL if I may:

-In a situation like this, how does one remove the chrome insert without damaging it so it can be reused?

-On a 2020 AS, would the rail be fastened by screws or rivets? If rivets, what size would they normally be?

-What is the caulking brand AS uses for this so it matches?

I noticed the same issue on my 2017. It's under roof and the Sun/rain never touch it. Dust? Plenty. It hasn't moved for a while and so it just let go.
The good news it's the trim on the 'segment protector' and I was considering a stainless screw and nut close to the end vs. VHB tape (which I have somewhere)

I refastened the rail which had detached on mine with rivets dipped in Sixaflex then used VBH to reattach the trim. Drove many many miles since. Hasn't budged.

Mine's falling off up front and starting to come loose in a couple of other places. Based on what I saw them doing at JC, I'm going to try the "replace the whole thing" approach. The new rub rail material isn't crazy expensive. OODM will get you a lifetime supply in a couple of days.

3M VHB tape. Don’t wrinkle it. I use the 3M primer too.

I’ve also replaced the entire strip. It is fairly inexpensive.

I second that. The plastic film that covers the surface of the trim breaks up easily when no longer new. Don’t bend it too much, or simply get new trim.
