Transportation/trailering of damaged AS to factory?

Hello,

I damaged the top + A/C of my 22' Bambi recently. I am considering the option of a "local" AS dealer (in either UT or ID) repair versus having my AS delivered to the factory in Ohio for repairs.

Any info / suggestions / contacts for such a service? I'm thinking trailered on a flatbed to OH, for "better" repairs in the factory. Are new Airstreams delivered to dealers towed or on flatbeds?

Any info, thoughts appreciated. Experiences, opinions...?
delivery would be from Idaho or Montana.

Obviously I could tow it myself
It's a hike.

Thank you.

Only the smallest trailers are placed on flatbeds for transport, most are towed by independent contractors. From what I have seen, only when they can place two units on the flatbed is that method used.

I would get it done at a local dealer.I think towing it to Ohio from Idaho would be more trouble than it's worth, not to mention waiting for appointment.
You could try a place like UShip, where independent haulers with all kinds of equipment, bid on your job.

You have the dealer network in the pacific north west that do a decent job. I believe they own ultimate airstream, that custom shop up there. They all should be more than capable to handle an AC

Airstream Adventures Northwest

You have 4 different Airstream dealers within easy distance (at least by Western standards). AAN has a dealership in Caldwell (they call it Boise) that has been my dealership since they opened. They has some top notch service techs including body work. Give Rosemary a call in service.
There is also an independent dealer in Spokane, WA that has some very good tech's.

Not having done business with the Montana dealer I can't speak to them

Go to:https://www.airstream.com/dealers/ plug in your town, Clayton, and find your choices.

If the damage is just to the A/C than the parts should be available from multiple sources.
You can send some pictures to the dealership and get a ball park idea of the fix.

They most certainly do transport Airstreams on flatbeds and here is the proof!

I would try to find out who the airstream carrier is (there is only one) and see if your trailer could be transported back to the factory when they do a delivery to one of the dealers nearby you. That is their only business.

Here is a video I made when in northern California several years ago.

The guy told me he has carried a 33' classic and a 16' bambi sometimes.

Take a look at the mud flap. It has a freight company's name on it.

R. R Charlbois
Milton vermont

Maybe the company that transports the airstreams or sold them the mudflaps. Either way, it's worth a call to find out. If they sold the mudd flaps, they will know who they sold it to.

Fun!

Definitely More Than One Carrier

My guess is; Turk123 is speaking of a dedicated carrier to a specific dealer. some dealers have more than 1 carrier.

I was told that there is only one carrier for Airstream and that carrier services the entire country. My information about this came from a friend of mine who has been an Airstream salesman for many many years. Now airstream may use other carriers from time to time, so don't hold that against me!

I wouldn't hesitate taking it to the dealership in Caldwell. Same owners as the one that works on mine.

Thanks all for the info + responses. useful!
It's a major gash completely through the roof to interior.

Much more than the A/C - which is "simply" bolted on, reconnect electric + interior trim reinstalled...

I have contacted AS OH + 2 local dealers for repair estimates.
It seems I am not the only one smashing things, as a long wait to get in the queue.

My thought is that this repair will require much more than 1 panel removed and replaced, and the factory would be better equipped.

Good to hear the vote of confidence in the local AS dealer, Caldwell, ID.

By the way, AirForums member VernDiesel has been hauling AS trailers to dealerships (on the ground) for several years. I believe he is an independent contractor. You could PM him if you really want to know how it works.
