toilet ......maybe seal

have a 1993 classic 25' ... went camping for a few days, wife noticed
no water would stay in the toilet, hmmmmm maybe seal
well... after thinking about this, maybe its time for new one, word has it..
thetford bravura low profile is a direct replacement, but does anyone
have any better ideas ? thx

I have a 2000, 25-foot Excella, so I'm guess your toilet configuration may be very similar or even identical to mine. Mine is on a raised platform, so the low-rise toilet is appropriate. When mine failed to hold water, I researched the options extensively. You are correct, the Bravura is a "direct-fit" replacement as it pertains to the flange bolt hole configuration and the discharge distance from front and year. Most (all) other toilets require either flange replace to the 9-3 bolt pattern, or the use of an adapter. The other problem with all of the other toilets goes to the discharge opening pushing the toilet too far back for the room that you have, or too far forward into the bathroom entrance area.

My problem with the Bravura toilet was that it is much bulkier than my Thetford Aqua Magic Galaxy/Starlight. I didn't like that. It made tight spacing even tighter. Many of the other nice toilets sat higher, with the lid up, interfering with the towels hanging in the back of the toilet. And the nice Dometic china toilets projected slightly further into the bathroom door opening.

Unlike many other people, I really have no aversion to the plastic toilets, so I stuck with my original Thetford Aqua Magic Galaxy/Starlight. I bought the O-ring/gasket kit, and replaced ALL of the many seals. Bad idea. It is a complete disassembly, messy, nasty job, and it didn't work. Then I bought the entire mechanism repair kit which has all of the seals already factory installed. It's a relatively simple out and in. The hardest part is getting wrenches into the tight spaces to remove/replace the toilet.

If you decide to go that route, you will need the Thetford 24203 Aqua Magic Galaxy/Starlite Mechanism Package. It costs about $100. Afterwards, it should work just like new.

I know others out have an aversion to the plastics toilets and prefer their china bowls; but there are complexities and extra costs to going that route in replacement.

I have the Thetford Aqua Magic Galaxy/Starlight also.
I found the official Thetford seal cleaning tool at a flea market a long while ago. You could bend an old cheap screw driver or coat hanger. Hold open the valve and "sweep" the seal with the tool. Likely old paper or debris in the seal.

Make sure you get the correct toilet. There are two heights.
At that price most likely you will get the "low" height model, that is designed to set on top of a box that is raised above floor level. The box covers the above floor black tank on trailers with the rear corner bath.
If you have the rear bedroom center bath, you need the "high" model that sets at floor level.
