threshold modification on exterior door

Good morning, we have a 27FB trailer with a door threshold that hurts our feet when you step on it. It's a pretty sharp aluminum edge sticking up about half an inch, it has a threshold piece but that doesn't help much.

I was thinking about putting in a nice wide piece of wood for a better threshold, but then I thought why not just cut that half inch down? It's obviously for keeping weather out but the door hangs down over the opening pretty far so I'm willing to try it.

Anybody have any experience with this?
