The threshold on my trailer is made out of wood. I plan on refinishing it by staining then coating it with something that will withstand the scuffing and wear.
What would you use as a final coating? Polyurethane or maybe something better?
What have you found that might hold up?
Well, nothing is going to hold up to foot traffic (with grit and rocks) forever. Anything you do will be noticeably scratched fairly soon. The longest lasting "stuff" would be an epoxy paint / coating of one sort or the other. There are lots of Youtube videos showing different ways to get it down on wood.
If anything, the videos don't fully show just how good it is. (at least when done very carefully ). Again the gotcha is that it'll look that way for about a day and then it will start showing scratches.
Look at marine varnishes for cabin soles (floors). Some are ceramic loaded and are resistant to scuffing. Also look at hardwood floor finishes. They also have some with ceramic.

Thanks Al,
I'll have to take a look at those products. Once I sand and refinish with stain, I want a nice hard clear coating to cover the threshold. The original that's in place has lost it's glossy finish and the stain is mostly gone. It just looks all worn out. It lasted for eight + years so now it needs some care.
