Post title says it all, is there a good way to keep this stuff from coming out?

It's simply window screen spline which comes in various sizes. Remove the window guard from the trailer, remove the old spline and replace it with new. You might want to go up one size of the spline which many hardware stores carry.

Easier yet: I've found that it shrinks a bit and pulls out at the corners first. So cut it at the apex of the corner and re-seat it. There will be a small gap, but it won't matter.
